Known Errors

These are the known errors in our products, logged as reported with versions and platforms affected as well as corrections and work-arounds.

This list is largely historical, since it records all problems that have been reported throughout G&R history. Only the most recently reported problems still exist, unless you are using a very old copy of the product, in which case you should update the product to the most recent version.

E1003: Gline, incorrect default for break with GCOS8 VMF

Product: All using Gline
Platform: All
Status: Fixed for R6.2. Fix available for R6.1.1
Last updated: 2004-07-08 08:42:35

The DSA parameters needed to access special applications can be
quite complex, and so there is a Gline parameter (-am,
application mode) that acts as a shortcut to set whatever is
necessary for some of these.

One of the special applications is the VMF (Virtual Machine
Facility) of GCOS8. The parameter -am vmf can be used to set
what is necessary for connection to VMF. The VMF is a TWS (two
way simultaneous) application that waits for an Attention-2
break before displaying a prompt. Because of this the -am vmf
was set to send Attention-2 as the default break.

After discussion with operations personell we have found that
this is a poor default. The operations people are used to
requesting the AMF prompt with a manual Attention-2 (CTRL/Z on
an async terminal/Glink), not the 'break' key (ALT/B in Glink).
Within VMF they need the default break to send Attention-1. This
is particularly true when using the VMF as a 'pass-thru' to the
Console application (which waits for an attention-1 before it
issues its prompt). The correction sets the default break to
Attention -1.

Work around: add the -bt 1 parameter after the -am vmf.

Please note that although these Gline parameters can be set as
extra parameters in the Glink/Ggate configuration, they are
really parameters that apply to the specific application, and
can advantageously be set for the application itself in the
dsa.cfg configuration file. e.g.

coname phxxvmf -desc "GCOS8 VMF"
-dn phxx -am vmf -bt 1

All users connecting to CONAME phxxvmf will be set up correctly.

Note that the vmf parameter sets the default mailbox to $vmf, so
a mailbox parameter is not needed.

The current application modes are:

AM XXX Application mode, modes follow below
    AST Datanet AST
    CON GCOS8 Console application
    GEN General
    VMF GCOS8 Virtual Machine Facility
