Known Errors

These are the known errors in our products, logged as reported with versions and platforms affected as well as corrections and work-arounds.

This list is largely historical, since it records all problems that have been reported throughout G&R history. Only the most recently reported problems still exist, unless you are using a very old copy of the product, in which case you should update the product to the most recent version.

E0013: Gmailer error with envelope recipients

Product: Gmail for UNIX 4.0.0 (and later) Gmailer
Platform: Any
Status: Closed, fixed in 4.0.1/4.4.1b, available
Last updated: 1996-06-18 15:01:01

If Gmailer was in the process of sending a message with envelope recipients
to a remote Gmailer that did not support envelope recipients, those
recipients were upgraded to BCC: recipients.

However, if the sending Gmailer's node also was running a localnode
Gmailer, the upgraded recipient got the local node's name appended to it.
This resulted in the message going back-and-forth once before finally
delivered at the remote node, in this manner:

User AU on node AN sends a message to user BU on node BN. Gmailer on node
AN (errouneously) upgrades the envelope address 'BU BN' to 'BU BN AN' since
node AN runs a local-mode Gmailer. Node BN receives the message and relays
it to mailbox AN, and then immediately sends it back to node AN as the
recipient address 'BU BN'. Node AN then sends it to back node BN with the
recipient address 'BU BN'.
