Known Errors

These are the known errors in our products, logged as reported with versions and platforms affected as well as corrections and work-arounds.

This list is largely historical, since it records all problems that have been reported throughout G&R history. Only the most recently reported problems still exist, unless you are using a very old copy of the product, in which case you should update the product to the most recent version.

E0170: Intermittent failures of UVTI applications

Product: Glink UVTI 5.4
Platform: Windows
Status: Closed, 5.4.4
Last updated: 1996-12-13 16:59:10

The UVTI interface has no definition of 'turn' in the sense needed when
communicating with a two-way alternate GCOS application. The UVTI
programmer can adopt several strategies in trying to synchronize the
application so that it does not begin to process the data before the host
has finished sending the output, mostly based on using time-outs. These are
unreliable, and will fail when network transmission times are variable, as
they often are in TCP/IP networks. When using Telnet into a Telnet server
the application will occasionally fail because of this.

An improvement is made in G&R/UVTI 5.4.4 to lessen the asynchronous
relationship between the UVTI application and Glink so that the timing
window where the application can fail is reduced.

When using G&R/Ggate this is never a problem because Glink then knows about
DSA 'turn' and the programmer can add:

To the GLUVTI.INI file to tell UVTI to return received data only when the
host has finished sending. This applies also when using Glink with the
Atlantis gateway, or TNVIP.
