Known Errors

These are the known errors in our products, logged as reported with versions and platforms affected as well as corrections and work-arounds.

This list is largely historical, since it records all problems that have been reported throughout G&R history. Only the most recently reported problems still exist, unless you are using a very old copy of the product, in which case you should update the product to the most recent version.

E0321: MainWay TNVIP server hangs Glink

Product: Glink with TNVIP
Platform: all
Status: fixed with patch to MainWay
Last updated: 1997-09-22 09:00:28

It seems that the MainWay Terminal manager or TNVIP server supresses
empty messages to the TNVIP client. This might seem efficient, but is
catastrophic if the message was sent to give the 'turn' to the client.

The error report from the distributor:

The TDS logon TPR firstly does a send (no turn passed) with the form
data, then follows this with a second send passing the turn but with no
data. The Mainway software DNS-E in the TNVIP code discarded this empty
message! Hence the terminal busy.

The fix was to apply ser 75152 applicable to both DNS-E V2U1.03 and
V2U2.02.

Note that there are several other open issues with the TNVIP server. The
most serious problem is that it does not seem capable of handling a real
two way simultaneous session. Should the application not send an answer at
all (data entry transaction) the client will hang.

The current release of the MainWay TNVIP server does not seem to be capable
of either initiating or accepting negotiation of the Telnet 'Supress
Go-ahead' parameter that would relieve the client from waiting for the
'go-ahead' (turn) from the TNVIP server.
