Known Errors

These are the known errors in our products, logged as reported with versions and platforms affected as well as corrections and work-arounds.

This list is largely historical, since it records all problems that have been reported throughout G&R history. Only the most recently reported problems still exist, unless you are using a very old copy of the product, in which case you should update the product to the most recent version.

E0381: Void "from" envelope addresses can trigger sendmail bug

Product: Ginet 5.0
Platform: Any
Status: Fixed in ServerX 4.0.2 and Gmail 5.0.2
Last updated: 1998-01-30 11:31:26

Normally, acknowledgements generated by Ginet are sent with an envelope
From address as "<>", which is a signal to the receiver that no action
should be taken if the message proves to be undeliverable. However, in
some cases, the receiving end is unable to handle "<>" addresses
correctly. Most notably, this is a problem regarding certain releases of
sendmail from Sun (refer to Sun's Bug Id #4012324 for details). If at all
possible, the sendmail software on sites like this should be upgraded.

Symptoms of this problem is when you receive an error message from the
site to which you have sent an acknowledgment. This message gets the
envelope "From" address converted to "@@host.domain" e.g.

The problem has been avoided in Ginet by introducing a new Ginet PROFILES
file directive "DisableVoidFrom ON|OFF" (initial value is OFF). This
directive should be put in the 'Default' section or an 'Address' section.
For example,

	Address *@marauder.epcorp.com
	 DisableVoidFrom ON

This directive specifies that the void envelope "from" address cannot
be used for messages to @marauder.epcorp.com, and that a normal From
address is generated instead of a void address.
