Known Errors

These are the known errors in our products, logged as reported with versions and platforms affected as well as corrections and work-arounds.

This list is largely historical, since it records all problems that have been reported throughout G&R history. Only the most recently reported problems still exist, unless you are using a very old copy of the product, in which case you should update the product to the most recent version.

E0382: Glink, problem with colors on NT with Dell AGP

Product: Glink for Windows 6.0 32-bit
Platform: Windows NT
Status: fixed for 6.0.2
Last updated: 1998-03-03 15:49:23

This is an update. See original error report with same number.

When Glink sets up its 16 default colours it tries to avoid
choosing colours that are not yet in the palette. This is to
avoid the nasty flashing, or even inverse image effect you get
with some colour applications when a new application changes the
palette.

The technique used is to paint a single pixel with each of the
Glink colours in turn, and then read back the actual colour from
the pixel to see what the system chose as the nearest
approximation from the values already in the palette.

With some Windows NT drivers we encountered an error that the
driver returned the Windows desktop background colour for all 16
colours. This occured for Dell's AGP (accelerated graphics port)
on NT 4.0 SP3, but we later found it occured for the ATI 264VT3
integrated display controller on both NT3.51 and NT 4.0 which is
used in several brands of PC.

The symptoms are that when starting Glink with default colors
(no changes in the Settings->Screen->Colour adjustments) all the
colors are the Windows background green color making host input
invisible in the Glink window.

Work-around:

Configure the colors explicitly in Settings->Screen->Colour
adjustments.

For the ATI controller you should collect the latest
drivers from the maufacturer at:

We are currently trying to locate systems where we can test
updated drivers for the Dell AGP. Dell use controllers from STB
and Diamond. Both have updated drivers available, and if you
have this problem you may check to see if they correct the
colour error.

For STB drivers: http://www.stb.com

Alternative work-around if driver update doesn't help:

Before installing Glink (if you have installed already then
uninstall) set up your screen driver in 256 or 16-color mode.
Install Glink again and save the configuration. Reset the
screen driver to your original settings.

(Thanks to SSgt Harry Pilgrim at NCOIC for this workaround.)
