Known Errors

These are the known errors in our products, logged as reported with versions and platforms affected as well as corrections and work-arounds.

This list is largely historical, since it records all problems that have been reported throughout G&R history. Only the most recently reported problems still exist, unless you are using a very old copy of the product, in which case you should update the product to the most recent version.

E0053: Terminated line handlers kept as defunct processes

Product: Host Links and Gmail for UNIX 4.0.0
Platform: Any
Status: Closed, fixed in 4.0.1 and 4.1.0
Last updated: 1996-07-19 21:16:40

Each time a line handler is stopped by an application the line handler
process is kept as a defunct process instead of being properly terminated.
This is a problem if the calling program is a long running application that
goes on starting and stopping line handlers. Sooner or later the machine
will run out of processes.

Gmailer is an example of a program that is likely to step on this error.

A side effect of the error may also sometimes be seen in Pthru, it manages
to terminate before the gl_tty handler is properly terminated and the
result is that the terminal is left in an unusable state.

Note that customer written applications using GlAPI need to be relinked
with the new libraries to take advantage of this fix.
