Known Errors

These are the known errors in our products, logged as reported with versions and platforms affected as well as corrections and work-arounds.

This list is largely historical, since it records all problems that have been reported throughout G&R history. Only the most recently reported problems still exist, unless you are using a very old copy of the product, in which case you should update the product to the most recent version.

E0568: Gline NT, listener allowed use of busy -PCO

Product: Host Links, Gline
Platform: NT
Status: Fix available for 5.2.1
Last updated: 1999-10-05 09:35:38

In the UNIX version of the listener; if a Glink user
tries to initiate a host session using a PCO (i.e.
local listening mailbox) which is used by another
session, the terminal session will be refused with

'Session error, request denied - mailbox is in use
  by another'

error message.

In the NT port, this was changed so that the terminal
session was infact accepted, but the print session did
not always work. A couple of examples where print 'only
works sometimes':

    - a single user opens several Glink session. Only
one of them really has the printer but this will
work OK as long as the user doesn't terminate the
      session which has the printer..

    - several users share a printer. Again - when the
host sends print it will end up on the printer
as long a the user who was lucky enough to get
      the printer doesn't log off.

This error is now corrected but in the case of existing
configurations, which might rely on this 'feature' (that
the terminal session is always accepted), a new listener
option is introduced, '-AMP' (allow multiple PCOs). When
set, an attempt to log on using a -PCO which is already
used by some other session, will result in the message

Warning - printer (PCO) mailbox is busy

beeing sent back to the user (but the terminal session
will be allowed to continue).

Please note that we do not really recommend this kind
of setup and strongly suggest that the configuration is
changed so that -PCOs are not shared (i.e. the way it
was intended). Alternativily use Gspool in shared printer
configurations.
