Known Errors

These are the known errors in our products, logged as reported with versions and platforms affected as well as corrections and work-arounds.

This list is largely historical, since it records all problems that have been reported throughout G&R history. Only the most recently reported problems still exist, unless you are using a very old copy of the product, in which case you should update the product to the most recent version.

E0058: Merged print spools to often, or not at all

Product: Host Links 4.0.0, Pthru, Qsim, V78sim
Platform: Any
Status: Closed, fixed in 4.0.1 and 4.1.0
Last updated: 1996-07-19 22:32:02

The merged print functionality that was introduced in the 4.0.0 release
exposed a problem in Pthru, Qsim and V78sim. They all used to pass the
collected incoming print data to the spooler at the time when incoming data
addressed the screen again. This is too simplistic when the print may come
in on a separate session completely independent of the terminal session.
The error symptoms seen are:
Lots of small reports being spooled if user is working in the terminal
session at the same time as print comes in.
Print isn't spooled at all if no screen data arrives after the last block
of print data.

Print spooling is now changed to be timer driven, like in Glink. Pthru,
Qsim and V78sim all have a new option, -pw, for Print Wait. The option
specifies how many seconds of print inactivity must pass before the job is
spooled. The default is 10 seconds. Setting -pw to 0 disables the timeout

Regardless of the timer, if the host explictly disconnects the print
session then data will be spooled immediately in Qsim and V78sim.
