Known Errors

These are the known errors in our products, logged as reported with versions and platforms affected as well as corrections and work-arounds.

This list is largely historical, since it records all problems that have been reported throughout G&R history. Only the most recently reported problems still exist, unless you are using a very old copy of the product, in which case you should update the product to the most recent version.

In some circumstances, Gmailer could hang if it tries to initiate an
outgoing connection to a host at exactly the same moment as a remote
Gmailer connects in. In most cases Gmailer will timeout after a 3 minute
interval and resume, however in some cases Gmailer may hang indefinitely.

As Gmailer has a mechanism for randomizing reconnection times, these
connection collision situations can only really occur if multiple remote
Gmailers are connecting to a central or main Gmailer (possibly the node
with the Gmail internet gateway) and even then, only if the connection
frequency is very high in the order of every few seconds.

On each Gmailer server, reduce the polling time #POLL in the nodes file to
a few minutes, e.g. #POLL 240. This will reduce file IO on each Gmailer
server and reduce the amount of outgoing connections, thus allowing a few
mails to accumulate before connecting.

In the case of a central node, set all the remote gmailer nodes to
read-only (-ro) so that the central Gmailer only accepts incoming calls and
therefore avoids the connection collision situation. If necessary, you can
use the #FORCE command on all the remote Gmailer servers to force a
connection to the central Gmailer.
