Known Errors

These are the known errors in our products, logged as reported with versions and platforms affected as well as corrections and work-arounds.

This list is largely historical, since it records all problems that have been reported throughout G&R history. Only the most recently reported problems still exist, unless you are using a very old copy of the product, in which case you should update the product to the most recent version.

E0718: Glink UVTI and multiple messages without giving turn

Product: Glink for Windows
Platform: All
Status: Fixed for 6.2.5 and 7.0.2
Last updated: 2001-07-31 10:24:29

Glink's UVTIReceive() function will sometimes return several host
application messages as one single received message.

This is only a problem for UVTI programs communicating with host
applications which send several messages without giving the turn. If the
UVTI program has logic to interpret concatenated messages, then this
should not be a problem.

Example: if GCOS-7 TPR TDS application sends several frames in the same

   Host application
   SEND   EMI   message-1
   SEND   EMI   message-2
   SEND   EGI   message-3
(EMI = End of Message Indicator, EGI = End of Group Indicator)

the UVTI program may receive the 3 messages concatenated.

This problem only occurs when connecting to more recent versions of
Mainway or FCP7/8 and is due to a regression at the host DSA side who is
converting the host applications SEND EMI (messages) to a DSA Letter
Segments (segments of a message) which means that the client side of the
DSA network (Ggate->Glink->UVTI program) sees:

   Host application          Ggate->Glink->UVTI program
   SEND   EMI   message-1 -> segment 1 of message-1
   SEND   EMI   message-2 -> segment 2 of message-1
   SEND   EGI   message-3 -> end of message-1

which is only one message, message-1.

Until a fix in the Mainway/FCP is available, Glink now defaults to
interpret a 'message segment' as a 'message' so that the UVTI program will
receive 3 messages (as intended by the host application) rather than 1.

If this new default behaviour is undesirable, you can turn it off in the
above updated Glink versions by using the below script command and resaving
the Glink configuration file.
