Known Errors

These are the known errors in our products, logged as reported with versions and platforms affected as well as corrections and work-arounds.

This list is largely historical, since it records all problems that have been reported throughout G&R history. Only the most recently reported problems still exist, unless you are using a very old copy of the product, in which case you should update the product to the most recent version.

E0936: GUFT, the euro on Windows platforms

Product: GUFTsrv, GUFTw, GUFTws
Platform: All Windows
Status: Fixed for 6.2, fix available for 6.1
Last updated: 2003-11-07 14:27:15

When GUFTsrv (The G&R/UFT server) on Windows, or GUFTw (The
G&R/GUFT client on Windows) or GUFTws (the G&R work station GUFT
redirector accept program for Windows) received a file with high
ASCII, the ISO 8859-1 characters were not mapped to the default
Windows character set (CP1252).

This is generally not noticeable, because the two character sets
are very similar, but the euro is a special case. The euro in
ISO 8859-1 is regarded as 0xA4 (taken from ISO 8859-15). In the
Windows environment the euro is assigned to 0x80. This means
that if you transfer a file from an ISO 8859-1 machine (most
mainframes, UNIX/Linux) to a Windows system, and if you intend
working with the file using Windows software such as Word, or
hardware such as printers, then the euro will display

The fix maps the ISO 8859-1 euro to a Windows euro whenever a
file is transferred to a G&R GUFT product running on Windows,
and vice versa.

Please note that if you have a shared file system, with
UNIX/Linux servers running GUFTsrv, and Windows workstations
accessing the resulting files, then the euro will be incorrect.
In all such cases, if your GUFTsrv is running on UNIX/Linux, but
your workstation is Windows, you must use the GUFTsrv
redirection facility, and the GUFTws acceptor on your
workstation to transfer the file directly into your local
Windows file system.
