Known Errors

These are the known errors in our products, logged as reported with versions and platforms affected as well as corrections and work-arounds.

This list is largely historical, since it records all problems that have been reported throughout G&R history. Only the most recently reported problems still exist, unless you are using a very old copy of the product, in which case you should update the product to the most recent version.

E0977: Glink TNVIP print of accented characters fails

Product: Glink
Platform: all Windows
Status: Fixed in 7.3. Fix available in 6.2, 7.1 and 7.2
Last updated: 2004-03-31 15:14:58

When Glink connects by TNVIP, the printer (if any) is configured
in the terminal manager, and the print output is merged into the
Glink TNVIP session by the TNVIP server.

The printer terminal type configured on the mainframe side
decides the capability of the printer. In particular it decides
the capabilty for displaying 8bit (accented) characters, and the
encoding sequence (SS2) which will be used to send them over an
(assumed) 7bit line. GCOS7 uses this extensively for
'transparent print'.

In some cases the SS2 sequence could collide with printer
specific addressing added by the TNVIP server, and cause print
of accented characters to terminate the print block. The print
block with accented characters would typically then be displayed
on the screen.

A TNVIP specific fix avoids the collision and the error.

Please note that this error does not occur when using G&R/Ggate
instead of TNVIP, and also that TNVIP does not support the new
8bit terminal types and printer defined for use with G&R/Ggate,
to avoid the overhead of SS2.

See E0974 for a detailed description of the new terminal types
and printer.
