Known Errors

These are the known errors in our products, logged as reported with versions and platforms affected as well as corrections and work-arounds.

This list is largely historical, since it records all problems that have been reported throughout G&R history. Only the most recently reported problems still exist, unless you are using a very old copy of the product, in which case you should update the product to the most recent version.

E0991: Gweb, Perl modules occasionally fail

Product: Gweb 6.0 and 6.1
Platform: All
Status: Fixed in 6.0.3 and 6.2, fix available for 6.1.1
Last updated: 2004-05-12 16:42:47

Gweb supports use of external scripts to handle incoming host
screens and incoming browser requests, via a defined interface.

In addition to information concerining the host screen, such as
width, height and variable fields, the external scripts are also
given a list of environment variables.

Perl-script modules that make this interface easy to use are
delivered with Gweb. These scripts also make the supplied
environment variables directly accessible in the Perl programs.

In some circumstances, the set of environment variables
contained two variables with the same name. This will not be the
case when using GwebS, G&R's own web server. It can only happen
when using an external web server where the communication
between the web server and the Gweb emulation processes use the
CGI interface. The error has only been observed using
Microsoft's Internet Information Server version 6.0, but could
appear also when using other web servers.

When the Gweb-supplied Perl modules were used in circumstances
like this, they would abort, because they were trying to create
two Perl variables with the same name, which is illegal.

Work-around, none. The fixes to Perl modules "Gweb.pm" and
"Gweb2.pm" must be applied.
